Shoplifting to me is a major concern, it shows lack of morals among other things and I would never be able to be comfortable with you in my home. So I feel you should be honest about it, yes it may lose a couple families for you, but the ones that can look past it and be happy with you will have full disclosure and you should feel good about turning your life around at least.
Good luck to you. |
| I don't believe you, I would not hire you if you told me this story. A store would not press charges for one lipstick. The length of time you are saying it all took also doesn't add up. Care.com would get the same report you do so that is not the reason you don't have an account with them. |

Yes, stores WOULD arrest someone regardless if they stole a watch or a candy bar.
They don't consider the value of the item stolen, they classify it all under the term "Shoplifter." "Shoplifters WILL Be Prosecuted" is the common sign posted everywhere. And businesses are 100% serious + mean business here. ------------------------ I wouldn't hold a shoplifting arrest from high school against you, if your adult record has been clean. But I may be suspicious to know why a childcare website couldn't clear you for a BC since I hear that these checks are flimsy to begin with. |
Stores dont arrest people, Police do, sometimes security will detain and then wait for the Police. The odds of the store then charging for a tube of lipstick are slim to none. Most of the time these people get trespassed and told never to return. |

OP here. Guys, sorry you don't believe me, but I'm being completely honest here. I lived in a very small, rural town where the police have nothing better to do than to arrest minors for stealing one low value item. I was completely compliant, admitted that I stole and gave the item back immediately, and they still called the cops and I spent the day in jail. I had never been in any trouble before that and have not since then. It sure scared me out of doing anything even slightly illegal.
As for the care.com thing, I'm also confused as to why I can't get an account. But the one time I did, I got an email a week later saying my account had been closed due to a charge on my background check. The shoplifting thing, like I said, is the ONLY trouble I've ever been in, so it has to be that. I'm just surprised that would keep me from having an account, especially considering I was a minor and it was years ago. The family did the background check and it didn't show up, so I'm in the clear. Thanks to those of you who gave helpful advice. |

I think it is completely unfair to deny you a Care.com account due to a mistake you made as a minor.
Why not contact them directly to see if they will tell you the reason your account was closed. It probably was done by mistake. |
Glad it worked out OP. Very strange about care.com. Might want to follow up with them. |
