FYI unemployment for a $40k or $50k/year job is approx. $250 a week. Don't think it's even close to your fully weekly or month figure, it is not. for anybody.

Paying unemployment is not a choice. This is something that you also pay into and have every right to collect and it would not matter whether they gave you a week or a month's notice.

The state psus unemployment. The employer pays into UE insurance to s. If you have a contract that says you get a month's notice then you should be paid for the month. You will not be able to draw unememployment until end of notice period.


You are so wrong. They were supposed to give, and pay, a month's notice but only gave, and paid, a week's notice
She does not have to wait a month. She only has to wait a week.

Doesn't month notice mean you are given notice that you have one month left to work, with that commensurate pay.

Only if they are replacing you would they give you one month pay and tell you to leave earlier. Or if they don't trust you would do a good job knowing you have a fixed number of days left. Or maybe in this case, since a parent was laid off, they just don't want the help (though they should b/c they need to network, get job leads, and find another job in their industry, presumably).

Sounds like they have money problems with the one parent laid off. They must not have gotten a decent or anything for severance and thus cannot afford to pay $100s in your severance or however unemployment works (I assumed the gov't pays this, not a former employer. that's why part of what was withheld each paycheck was unemployment insurance which is socialized).

Just correct them that you will work through your one month notice, per terms relayed earlier. Fair for everyone.
If they do not want you around, they will have to pay one month. You could be very helpful for the laid off parent do job search that initial month.

I worked for 3 mos for a family and knew it was temp going into it. I couldnt find a job when it ended so looked into unemployment and I was eligible even though I knew the job was temp. So i was on unemployment for about 2 months I think. I got just over $300 every 2 weeks.

Don't be so nasty. Deserving nannies have every right to accept unemployment. There's a good reason why parents are legally required by law to pay into unemployment insurance.

I worked for my previous family for 8 years, I collected unemployment for about 6 months. I got $475 a week in unemployment benefits.
