$18/hr for one child is a good rate, bordering on high. BUt it's certainly reasonable and should command you great options as an employer.

You can pay less, or more, but there is absolutely nothing wrong w/ your rate. The position will be viewed as attractive by prospective candidates, and the rate will hopefully help you retain a good nanny (if you wish to.)

Don't worry about what other people say. If you have found someone who is a great match for your family, at a rate you can afford, then good for you!

Good that you identified yourself. That explains your lack of knowledge here. The good nannies earn more than that. You know only about your nanny, and what your friends want to tell you. That's all.

Save your bitterness, I've been on this board for too long for your response to be anything other than tired. You're right in that I can only speak directly from my experience and those I know who have hired nannies. But that's pretty much what this board is about - speaking from direct experience. I've hired two excellent nannies, who have stayed w/ my family for years. I know what the market rates are in my area, and what I was able to hire for the money I was willing to spend. I stand by my post.

Ok. How many W2's or payroll stubs have you seen verifying your ridiculous claim?

How many have YOU seen, other than your own?

I knew it. Your "knowledge" is based on absolutely nothing.

Good thing this board is anonymous, your crazy is showing.

You still have zero evidence. Sorry!

$18/hour is a good rate. I'm paid $18/hor for an 8 & 10 year and receive a credit card for my personal use of gas, food for myself and personal hygiene needs (weekday live in).

Maybe it's good for you and your unique situation. If they give you a loaded VISA card, they aren't paying taxes on that part of your compensation.

$18 is really high, unless she only works like 10-15 a week.

It depends where OP is in the DC area. I don't have a nanny but based on friends and neighbors in upper NW that salary is about right, and I am talking of nannies working full time with guaranteed hours

No, I know good nannies here earning more than that. Maybe for mediocre nannies, that would fly.

Are you 10??? Jesus, you make nannies look absolutely terrible, petty, and immature.

$18 is par for 2 kids, no housekeeping, full time. Change any of those parameters, and the pay changes.

Did you read OPs post? I'm guessing ESL, so surely not NW. Maybe NE or something South.

I am not sure you really live in DC. I am not OP but the person you are responding to. I am "ESL" and live in upper NW as other friends and colleagues who came to the U.S. as adults and are successful professionals.

You don't have a clue. Why are you even here if you aren't a nanny and you don't have a nanny? It looks like you like to argue about things you know nothing about. You may continue with your nonsense.

That's what they do, they move here and argue.

I LOVE DCUM nannies trying to artificially inflate DC nanny rates. They're so funny. Did you know that if you make a lot of money but pay merely a fair wage your nanny will start treating your kids like shit and key your car? Did you know $20/hour can't buy a professional nanny?
Anonymous
The rate you should pay your nanny is tied to your income. If you are making $500,000 a year don't expect to pay the same amount as someone making $100,000 a year, even if they have more kids. That's just the way it works.

Lay off the wine, my dear, and just get to bed.
