Great nannies, for multiple kids, can be found in Montgomery County for $15/hr easily.

Great nannies, with broader experience/education/expertise can be found for significantly more per hour also.

But a posted position offering $15/hr will get lots of qualified applicants.

Sorry - it's just the reality.

Sure... illegals. Just the reality.

Yes, at least that much.

Wrong! Wrong!
Lower net rates are for nannies **on the books **, and not for illegal workers! The families cannot afford to pay more /hr, as they in fact pay taxes.
So the logic that illegal nannies are cheaper is simply very wrong! Quite the contrary. It is unfair to make this accusations.
If we did not pay our nanny on books, we could in fact pay her as high $20hr. But, since we pay taxes, her net salary is 25% lower than that, and that is what most families can afford.
Get real, people.

Most people can "afford" the cheapest they can get. Thank goodness for the smarter parents who understand you get what you pay for. Those who can afford it, want only the best.

Interesting... I only take positions on the books, and every single one has been a higher rate. I've interviewed for several families who list the rate as $20-25 or $15-20, but when asked what their range actually is, they are lower and that's without taxes. It's annoying. More than once I've considered taking a position without asking and filing my taxes as normal. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't have done anything wrong by assuming that my check would be after SS and fica were withheld.

I've hired several nannies, all in lower Montgomery County, all US citizens, all for $15-18/hour.

I have twins.

Never had any problem finding wonderful, legal, great caretakers in that rate range.

There were people who charged more, who I sure might have been terrific. But the people I've hired have been fantastic.

Why can't my friend find a great nanny in the same area at that price? She has twins and says it's costing her $28/hr to get what she wants.

This is beyond crazy. Nannies are hardworking pepo and Montgomery county is very expensive to live in. No way would I accept 15/h for two kids. I hav cpr/first aid, speak and write French, have training on managing challenging behavior and am socially well rounded with 5 years experience under my belt. My starting rate is 20/child; 25 for two. If you can't pay that go look elsewhere.
