We had the same situation with our last au pair. She was efficient, but didn't like one of my sons, and it showed. His self esteem was in the gutter when she left. I didn't catch on until the end and could kick myself, looking back. We ended up dropping out of the au pair program. This was just the cherry on top of a series of bad experiences and we're just done.

OP, please, for the sake of your child, don't try to make this work. You're a long time host parent and you know a good match when you see one, and you know that this isn't it.
