I don't know that I would ever call posting an "intelligent discussion" but I agree that the poster with the, "If she works 12 hours a day..." is probably and idiot.

Everything is included. As I wrote in my first post, all I am out is the chance to be home in my own bed. Seriously - that is the point of my post. What compensation is generally accepted for simply needing to be away from home?

Even if the trip costs you zero out of pocket, I think any extra compensation still depends on several intangibles. Are you in a great tourist or vacation locale with the means to take advantage of it? Or, are you stuck in a motel room with no car? Do you have a family you will be missing and a partner that must take on an extra load while you are gone? Or are you in a stage of life where a spontaneous trip would be an adventure? Was travelling with the family an agreed upon duty with this family? Or is this unexpected?

Depending on the answer to these, the inconveinance factor could be worth zero to several hundred per night.

OP here. Thanks everyone. I just accepted an additional $75 a night. If it turns out to be a mistake, I will reopen the discussion.

Wow, extra money for not sleeping in your own bed? Boy, has my employer been screwing me. Come on - no real employee gets extra compensation for traveling.

Actually, some employees are given a per diem over and above meals. About 15 years ago in my job, meals were charged to the company credit card up to a certain amount per day. (No alcohol) We were also given a $35 per diem.

OP, I guess that's what you were asking. I just didn't put it all together.

I am the OP and very much real. $75 was just accepted by my new employers. And it is only for not being in my home at night (which is not something I enjoy - I like being home).
