Have I taken too many sick days? RSS feed

Wow, I cannot imagine any mother allowing someone who is ill to care for their child. These types of situations never cease to amaze me.

No, three sick days in two years is not too much.

You are a human being and you are going to fall ill at times. It is to be expected. Your MB should have another form of childcare as back-up. If she doesn't have a Plan B. for when you get sick, then that is her bad...Not yours.

Rest up and get well soon! It sounds to me like it may be a flu vs. a cold.

I couldn't disagree more. Go to work, OP. Your boss already said that she needs you tomorrow and it is a cold. Just a cold. I've worked with the flu a couple of times and it isn't fun but it is doable. You do not want your employers to see you as a baby - got to work.

Another silly little girl.

Life gets so much harder than this, OP. You will often be asked to work/perform with a cold. This is life. You are not a child anymore.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, for a nanny I would say you have taken a large number of sick days. I have been a nanny for over a decade and actually have never taken a sick day (for illness.) I have taken days off (planned) and vacations, but I have never called in sick. So, unless you are puking uncontrollably then you should go in.

You win the best nanny contest. Martyr.

And you win the Whiny contest, Wimpy. Congrats!

How old are you??

You people are telling someone who has a fever (and most likely the flu) to go to a house with a 2 week old infant in it?
Are you insane?
You don't win any awards for going to work under completely innapropriate circumstances. Fever, body aches and headache would qualify as such. Call me a naive little girl all you like, telling someone to "man up" for taking a f**king day off is ridiculous. That's why God invented sick days.

Fever, body aches and headache??
You ever had the flu? Those are the main symptoms.

Yes, you should work.

I worked through chemo and radiation.

You have a cold. Take it a bit easy, stay away from mom and baby, wash your hands often, sneeze into your elbow, and do your job.

OP here. This is exactly why I hate posting on DCUM. All these nasty responses are completely unnecessary.
Calling me a little girl and telling me to "man up."
Is that necessary?
Thank you to everyone who answered my question without being so rude and childish.

Nanny here I didn't understand one thing here how come taking 3 days sick leave in 2 year is lot. Most nannies get 5 to 6 days sick leave in a year right plus the 2 week vacation?

I think the issue is this: You presented the issue to MB hoping that MB would tell you to stay home and thus assuaging any guilt you might have. You wanted her to make the choice for you. MB made a choice and asked you to come in and now you are stuck.

In the future, decide if you need to stay home or not, and then inform MB. Stop feeling guilty for doing so if you think you need it.

Most of the responses on this thread are missing the actual facts here. OP has a cold and asked MB what to do. MB said I'd prefer it if you come in but let me know tmrw how you feel. What does this have to do with how many sick days are too many? OP - if you are too sick to go in, call MB and tell her. If you have a cold and can go in but don't want to get the baby sick, MB has told you she'd prefer you come in. If it's not just a cold, best to make that clear. Doesn't sound like anyone is being unreasonable here.
