This is why I recommend to all my NFs that nanny cameras are a great idea. You have the option of seeing what is happening, and I have proof that I was hurt in the course of my duties if I need it. Either way, win-win. |
The only reason hat you would say she was fired with cause, is to be vindictive. There is absolutely no affect on you as a small time employee to help her get unemployment, however for her, it could be life changing - not having an income. She already probably made like nothing from you money wise and then you're going to try to not get her to receive benefits. Stay out of it, be nice, and move on. |
NP here. We're barely making it by employing a nanny, and if my EI went up as a result of something like this, it would kill us. So you're just wrong. |
MB here - we fired a nanny for cause - I can't even believe you gave severance to be honest.
Our nanny wasn't feeding or changing our son. Luckily, we were in a share and the other mom noticed. We spoke to the nanny about a number of things prior to that which she ignored, so she had already been "warned". We fired her after 5 weeks (i didn't know she was neglectful right away, luckily the other mom saw as they were the host family) and she of course filed for unemployment. She gave Maryland the wrong address for us so we were never notified and the default was in her favor. Eventually, the mail forwarded to us and we contacted the state ASAP and told them HECK NO, she was fired for cause. We wrote a detailed letter and they revoked her unemployment insurance. And her references totally checked out. But I then learned to trust my gut more than a reference, which can easily be fabricated. |
I disagree - if an employer asks if she's ever been fired for cause....the answer would be yes. of course she could lie, but if they do a check I believe the denial of unemployment would come up (right?). At least I hope so for our nanny - I want folks to know she was fired for cause |
If this negligent nanny wants to change her life for the better, she should do her job. Why should she be compensated for being lazy? |
If someone was laid off for no reason except that the employers wanted a nanny for less hours a week, then she is entitled to unemployment. |
