I would keep a very close eye on her if I were you, PP. Is she engaging the babies in narration and conversation? Reading to them? Making sure they have tummy time and outdoor time?

Your nanny could easily be earning 25 to 40% more -- why did she choose to work for so much less?

I work from home, so I hear her upstairs with the kids all day. she talks to them, sits on the floor paying, takes them for walks to hang out with other kids/nannies. Most of the nannies I know make around that much.

How does she support herself on $16/hr in Silver Spring?
Or is that "not my problem"?

Her husband works at Lowes. They have a townhouse in Gaithersburg and they raise/support her 4 grandchildren. I pay her what she asked for and the rest is up to her. My boss doesnt ask how I pay my expenses.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

That's incredibly low. If those are her families' only sources of income, wow. There is no way that I would ever agree to that wage, let alone propose it! while supporting 4 kids.

I also have a nanny share arrangement at $17 per hour in North Arlington. I do not think the $16 share arrangement is that out of line. I would expect wages to be lower in Ashburn.

You need to be careful of the wages cited here. There are some nannies making up inflated wages as "advice."

I also have a friend who has $12 nanny share in Ashburn but the kids are much older.

DOES YOUR $12 friends paid the share with Government vouchers, I suppose that they are low income class. $6/have for each child is below minimum wage. Go away

There are people who get really upset hearing about what a great deal some MB got. What's it to you? And for the record, $6 each times 2 for the share is $12 per hour and not below minimum wage.

These seemingly upset people are the ones who mistakenly think they should be living in studio apartments in downtown DC, Arlington and Bethesda "just because."

We had a nanny share with two infants in upper NW for $19/hr - legal, experienced, wonderful nanny. I think nanny shares run generally between $18 - $23 per hour. $16/hr seems a little low but maybe that's the Ashburn discount.

Anonymous wrote:Does anyone have any insight into the going rate for a live out nanny for two infants in Ashburn? We're doing a Nanny Share with another family, will be a 3 month old and 5 month old when we start. I was thinking $17 an hour (as we had looked at $15 per hour for one child). Thank you!

You get to what you paid. Any person who really need a job and don't earn any credential or reference would work for$17/h for two children. However, if u think that your child deserve a quality childcare provider who would engage and nurture ur baby, then paid at least 12/ per child. So qualify nannies came along for interview. It's all about what u think your child deserve. Good luck.

One thing that my child deserves is a better speller.

That's because she can't easily be earning "25 to 40% more".
