I disagree that less than two hours of work should not be compensated.
Every hour should be paid since the nanny is working. WORKING. And by a working interview, I am assuming the OP is talking about having a nanny care for a child for a few hours while the parents are either nearby to supervise and ask questions to, or they leave for a little bit like to run a small errand, then return. No way should they expect a nanny to do this for free. Time is money Baby. |
I would pay the hourly rate that you plan to pay, if it's an all-day trial day. If it's just a couple of hours, I'd pay $50 for the trouble. |

Do the interview first, unpaid. Trial is paid to the nearest 15 minutes, whether you like the way she is with the kids or not. Cash is fine, just like you would do for a babysitter, because you're probably doing this with 2-5 people, but you're only hiring 1. |
