I don't see anything nasty. OP was trying to be nice - no one disputes this. However, giving this much notice is an objectively bad idea. She is just asking to be let go way before she is ready to move on. Misplaced loyalty hurt her and I hope that she and others who read this decide not to do give excessive notice. 2 weeks is sufficient and even then you risk being cut loose in less time.

Two weeks maximum, only if you can afford to be fired on the spot. Most parents are ruthless like this.

If parents don't like that, they should document their intentions in advance. Problem solved.
