She isn't a nanny. She's an illegal. Do you think the parents didn't want to pay more for a legal person who is a nanny?

What does her immigration status have to do with her title as a nanny? You just sound ignorant.
If she calls herself a nanny, she is. Plain and simple. Until there is a professional governing board, certification, or license required, ANYONE who says they are a nanny is one. Continuing to argue the semantics of it is just tiring and does nothing to address the real issues here.

So if I say I am a Senator, or a horse groomer, or an illegal bookie, or even a mother, does that make me what I claim to be?

Yes, any sad sack can call themselves a nanny. Doesn't make their claim valid. That's why parents with a decent level of savvy don't think a care.com $10 "background check" is sufficient, why they don't just blindly believe all the "references" are legitimate, and why they hire people who are in the country legally and then PAY them legally as well.

If you wouldn't trust a lawyer who was an illegal immigrant and wanted to be paid in cash to do your legal work, why the ever loving H#{{ would you trust someone like that to care for your children?

If you told me you were a Senator or a lawyer, I would ask for your credentials to back up that claim. Tell me, what special certificate do you posses that makes your title of "nanny" any more valid than that of an 18 year old girl who babysits two days a week or an illegal immigrant who cares for the same child 50 hours a week?

My original point is that it is COMPLETELY arbitrary. It's tiring on these boards that any time a person acts out of turn, the response is to say "Well she's not a REAL nanny". There is no damn such thing.

Calm down, Dear. It is certainly not arbitrary. This woman was clear just a babysitter and a very poor one at that. Read the whole story.

And take your truly bizarre hatred of nannies elsewhere. Better yet - seek professional help for your blinding hatred.

I agree it is the parent's fault. No one inflicts that kind of torture on a child for the first time -- this sick babysitter has been doing this for a long time.

I can guarantee the parents did not check references or immigration status.

A lesson to all parents. Hire an undocumented babysitter and you have no way of checking even their identity or background in their home country.

Is saving a few dollars an hour really that important to you? The mother in this story could afford Nanny Cams but not a legal and background-checked babysitter for her child?!

It takes some real parental brains to access if a so-called nanny is really a nanny. But let's face it, people, most parents don't really want a nanny. They want someone to obey their orders. Period. That's not a nanny.
