OP here- I was extremely upset and distraught, however both MB and DB have strict job schedules and I have never called out because they don't have back up child care. Plus I am only there for less than two hours a day and I just had to suck it up for those two hours so MB and DB didn't have to leave work early. I am also Catholic, and there was a 9 day prayer planned that started that Saturday. I wouldn't be able to make it to most of the prayer days because of my nanny job, so I at least wanted to make it to the first one.

I'm catholic. How come I've never heard of 9 day prayer where everyone takes off of work for 9 solid days? Or do you just stop by in the early AM or afterwork?
Even sitting shiva is not that disruptive!

It is a novenario in Spanish, and it is always at 6:30 when usually everyone is off work. No one takes 9 days off, whoever makes it on time goes and whoever can't doesn't. I wouldn't be able to make it any other days because of my nanny job, so I wanted to go on that first Saturday.

Your boss is very selfish and has little to no empathy. Whether or not he is an M.D., he is still a human being and his comment is just tacky to the extreme.

This could be a troll, but not because of the " dead guy" statement. I have worked for many doctors over my years as a nanny, and you would be surprised at the things they say. Unfortunately, a doctor saying "because of the dead guy" would not shock me one iota.
