Raising a child is the hardest job out there. Who cares what the nannies level of education is. Does she do any less work than a nanny with a college degree? No, so you can't use that to determine her salary. And $18/hr is pitiful for doing such a hard job and taking care of such a precious thing as a child. Men working on oil fields literally just sucking liquid out of the ground make $60/hr. Think about that for a minute. |

+1 As an MB, I have met quite a few of these bad mothers who do think so little of the care and protection of their own children. They offer their kids up to the lowest bidder and head off to their own jobs. It is truly very, very sad. |

myself furtanate, considering I have only a high school education. It's not the hardest job out there, exhausting, yes, emotionally draining too. But people who have college degrees certainly deserve to earn more than a nanny. |

OP, a $1/hr raise is perfectly fine and $19/hr for one child is a very good wage in any market.
That said, the thing you should consider is PTO. Nannies get sick and do need vacation time or holiday time off. Start with 3 days of sick time, a week of vacation and holidays off that fall on her work days that you have off. That total package would be a huge improvement on your present package and will probably retain her in the next year. It also allows you to add PTO as a perk in the future. There is little reason to offer over $1/hr raise yearly. GL. |
