Maybe. Depends on what the kid's diagnosis and treatment plan is, what assets the family has, and if there's another parent who's working. Also could depend on the immigration status of the child. Even if they get SSI and TANF it'll be only about $1000 a month. Food stamps and WIC will help with groceries, but it is going to be hard. Around here, not very likely to be able to live independently. With that said, there may not be anything OP can do about that--reduced hours may be a possibility if someone can pick up the slack, or maybe she could care for your kid at her home if her kid isn't contagious. You could give a generous severance package and a great reference. It's understandable that you can't pay her indefinitely not to work. |
