Incase you have never noticed, the people that obsessively wash their hands and use hand sanitizer are constantly sick. I never wash my hands, not after playing in the dirt or using the bathroom, and I am never sick and neither are my charges. Kids need a chance to build up their immune system and 15 gallons of hand sanitizer a day doesn't help.

You do not wash your hands after going to the bathroom?

No. I don't play with my feces or fondle my genitals, so it's no big deal.

You're right, one of the benefits of having a nanny is that your children will not be exposed to germs and illnesses from other children.

So yes, I can totally see your point here.

I would ask her to please limit the children's playdates with other young children. If she isn't happy in doing so or fails to comply, then you should find another nanny.

OP here. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a chat with her about what we can do together to try to battle this. I'll see if she needs me to buy her more supplies for the diaper bag (hand wipes, etc) and I'll ask her to make sure she's doing lots of hand washing and try to limit toy sharing with other kids (which, I realize, is probably mostly futile) unless she knows them pretty well and is pretty sure they aren't sick.

So once your kids actually meet other kids in Kindergarten they will be sick 24/7 and never develop a proper immune system. Good job moms!

So you don't wipe yourself after using the toilet either?

Good to know someone with such a high level of hygiene is caring for children.
