Parents are selfish if they put letting their kids have a Christmas tree over the stability of keeping a good nanny around.

Where are you from that you've never been around a Christmas tree?

Oh and one more thing since you seem to be a bit dim, under no circumstances should you ask them to take down the tree. Well, you can. But don't be surprise when you get let go.

HAHAHAHAHA are you kidding me? What the hell do you expect her bosses to say? "omg we will get rid of the tree now!!!!!"? You are insane.

I was being sarcastic. I for one don't believe this post is real as is simply designed to start the "entitled whiny nannies vs entitled asshole bosses" debate.

I am confused. Surely you know you're allergic to Christmas trees. Hard to understand why you didn't seek out to work for a Jewish family or one of another religion that wouldn't bring a Christmas tree into their home.

OP says she's never been around a Christmas tree before...

ROFL. Oh, also cite "hostile work environment" for assault by Christmas tree. Go get em' OP!

I don't know what to do, that's why I'm asking.

It scares me you take care of children.

If her kids were allergic, she would get an artificial tree. Why can't she do the same for the kid's caretaket. If I were you, OP. the room with the tree would be off limits.

The nanny is not her child.
The nanny is not a child although her inability to come up with a solution to her allergy problem makes her seem like one.

Claritin works wonders So does keeping out of the tree room.

Because she put the live tree up THEN found out.

Of course the OP couldn't use her brain and preemptively tell the family of her allergy.

I'm not sure what anyone can do to make this perfect:

Now the nanny knows she is allergic to christmas trees. Does that mean that next year she will insist that the NF only use a fake tree? Really? I'm not sure I'd make that concession - it's 3 weeks, and I really like real trees. I like the way they smell, I like the real tree-ness. I was raised with fake trees and I prefer real trees.

If my nanny was allergic to mango, that's a permanent thing - and I would make sure my child's food wasn't mango (I wouldn't ban mango from my house, i would simply make sure the food I had set for her to serve to the children didn't have mango in it. And if there was a mango something or other in the refrigerator, I'd warn nanny not to have any of that because it had mango in it. I am allergic to nuts, my husband can and does eat nuts so we have them in the house. I don't eat them.

This is for 3 weeks - I think the nanny has to take zyrec, claritin, allergra and see which one works (I vote for allegra, that solves all my pollen and other seasonal allergies).

So without being mean, I don't really see that this is something that I'm going to change for my nanny. I would feel badly for her, but....

Umm no. OP is just truly an idiot. She is there NANNY, not a member of their damn family. The family isn't going to not have a tree because their NANNY is allergic. It's 3-4 damn weeks, she should suck it up and take allergy meds. Also, I question her whole story. She's NEVER been around a Christmas tree? Really?

Calm down Junior.
1. It's Their, not There.
2. The Christmas season lasts approximately 4 weeks. She is their nanny 52 weeks out of the year. Offering to buy her Benadryl is about as callous as it gets.
3. Why are you people getting so pissed off at OP? This is a genuine problem. I doubt many of you have a true allergy. If you did, you would realize that popping a Claritin doesn't just make the allergy disappear. Repeated exposure to an allergen can cause anaphylaxis. If you value the smell of a tree in your house over the health and wellbeing of a human being, you are a piece of shit.
