Tell them you're sorry and will help however you can but your trip as booked well in advance and is nonrefundable so you will be going as planned. |
You gave them 8 months notice - it's not your problem they have not yet figured out care. Politely inform them that they okayed the time off prior to you booking the trip and that it is not refundable. Maybe look up an agency or two that provides temp care for them. |
Poor planning on their part does not constitute an emergency on your part. |
