Why didn't you call the police yourself OP?

OP, what you witnessed was absolutely abusive behavior. You could easily have engaged the station manager or called police. That horrible "nanny" should be glad you didn't.

I hope the parents see this post and find themselves a better nanny.

I'm sorry but just because they say they are a nanny doesn't mean it's true. They could be a nanny, a mb stirring the pot or even some bored person that found the nanny forum and has know idea what a real nanny is like but these people like to stir the pot. I don't know anyone that would come here for real advice

I'm not a nanny. I'm a woman who employs a nanny. I don't care if you believe me, I posted here in hopes the parent of these children would see it and fire their nanny.

And to the last PP, I wasn't coming here for advice. I came here to try to put word out for these parents. I am not allowed to in the general parenting forum so I had to here.

I probably should have stepped in more aggressively than I did (not sure about calling police), but a "what would you do" post is for another thread, another forum.

Actually, you know why I didn't call the police? Because short of this woman knocking the kid unconscious and the kid still being unconscious when the cops finally arrive, there is NO WAY they would help me. I have given up with DC police after experiences calling them after someone threatened my life, broke into my car, and committed a hit-and-run and was still freaking visible down the street. They don't give a shit.

I am nanny but I am so surprise to see the reply of other nannies saying its OK no its not OK. It is our job to make sure about their safety no matter what the situation is. Please somebody if you know these kids parents let them know about this post. Its really important .

I know a nanny who comes in the park where I go, she is in the phone all the time.she doesn't care if the baby cries , hungry etc even the baby diaper is so full she doesn't care. I am waiting one day I can meet the baby mom and tell her everything.

The child fell and hit his head because he was being a little shit, god works in mysterious ways sounds to me like he needed a little something.

You didn't see it. It was certainly abuse. I hope you're not a nanny.

Was a bone broken ? Was a huge laceration left? Not abuse. Even if she had hit him repeatedly it's not abuse in most states. It might not be okay with the parents but the word abuse indicates a criminal offense. Let's not label someone as a criminal.

Are you an idiot? Do you actually think that a bone needs to break or a laceration caused for it to be abuse? Honestly wondering, does your brain function at at least an average level? We're talking about a NANNY treating the charge she gets paid to care for like this!

"Even if she had hit him repeatedly it's not abuse in most states"

Please tell us which states a nanny can hit a charge repeatedly and it not be considered abuse and illegal! Please, please list "most" of these states!

If you want to know the laws google it for yourself. Most states allow spanking. 19 of them allow teachers to spank.

OP, if you believe what you saw was abuse then you had a moral responsibility to contact the police. Unlike your other, and many, police encounters they would have been obligated to inform the family due to the fact that the case involves a minor. Then the family could make a decision how to proceed. Since there are cameras all other the metro stations they may have even been able to view the footage to make an informed choice.

Having said all that, I would not characterize her actions as abuse. Definitely unacceptable but not at the level of a criminal act. I am a nanny, I would hope she would be fired but no criminal charges.

Are you kidding me. I am no mom of the year but I have NEVER not comforted my child when he hurt himself even if he hurt himself while tantruming. I would want to know if this was my nanny. not ok. Yes, I have yelled, but yanked an arm while yelling?! Slamed a kid into a stroller while yelling. NEVER

You seemed oh so confident about "most" states, can you please tell me where you found this info? I'm searching google for corporal punishment laws, can't find anything that says nannies are legally allowed to hit their charges.

I didn't google anything about nannies. It shouldn't matter who spanks the kid. I was just mainly talking about spanking not nannies. I googled spanking laws. Most states are ok with it . The person should not matter.

Of course I don't think nannies should spank or yell. But my point was it is not a crininal act. And the nanny in question didn't hit, she yanked an arm.

Yanking an arm is not the same as spanking.

If his parents would not allow it around them, then it should not be done while they aren't around! PERIOD!
