8yo charge making up terrible lies RSS feed

No acknowledgement that an 8yo shouldn't be spying on adults or listening to them in the bathroom, no discussing where she would get ideas about me killing people, just "oh she heard metal clanking in the bathroom when you were in there so she thought it was a gun". My charge also told her mom about something that happened months ago, saying it happened that day and that's what began the entire episode, but when I told MB it had in fact been months since this happened, she didn't believe me over her daughter. So I'm feeling a lack of support in the situation that is a bit exhausting. Guess I'll just keep my head down and ride it out. It does worry me that this little girl may actually benefit from therapy, because I don't think MB wants to see it.

Perfect example how parents can escalate, or even be the cause of, their children's mental illness. Thank you for shedding more light on your situation. Please get a new job for your own safety. This is eventually bound to come crashing down on your head.

You need to leave for liability reasons, and that child needs serious mental health evils done.

This is not normal HFA behavior, IMO.

Pp here: evAls, I mean.

Sounds like she has plenty of mental health evils.

I think you souls suggest the MB get a nanny cam. It will protect you and she can see how her child is acting.

OP here, I would suggest a nanny cam or leave as PPs suggest if I weren't on a limited term contract. It's ending in a couple months which is why I said I'd just ride it out. I keep my voice recorder option on my phone's speed buttons and pull it up any time the situation turns tense, just in case, and so far the child seems to have returned to her usual self.

On a related note, does anyone know if the "illegal to record audio without someone's consent" law extends to minors? I'm not doing anything with the recordings, obviously, other than covering myself in the event of false accusations.

It depends on the state so you can look it up but in a lot of states only one person involved has to give consent to the recording which can be you. There are some states (and I think Maryland may be one of them) where both parties need to give consent. In the case of a minor it is the parents who have to give consent.

If all they are doing is speech therapy then this child is not adequately being treated and the diagnosis may also be off. I have an 8 year old son with HFA and he can trantrum or sulk when he doesn't get his way or has to engage in a non-preferred activity but never never becomes cold and calculating as the OP has suggested of her charge. This sounds like something much more and much different than HFA and the mother sounds as though she is in denial.

The mother already knows how badly her child is behaving. Nothing can get fixed until everyone there gets some solid instruction about how to effectively manage the situation.
My heart goes out to OP and the child. The parents are being seriously negligent here.
