By this logic, if you worked 11 months, you should get a bonus equal to 11 days (so thats 2 weeks and one day)? Where as if you worked one month longer you would only get a 5 day bonus? Nope thats not right.... ![]() ![]() |
It isn't rocket science. Nanny works six months to a full year - typical is one week of pay as bonus. Less than six months - prorate to about one day of pay per month worked. The prorating comes into effect mostly when a nanny is relatively new -- less than four months. Usually by 4 or 5 months in, the nanny had shown whether or not she has "earned" the full bonus. |
Usually much sooner than that, you have shown if you're worthy of a good nanny. Your attitude indicates you are not. |
and you know I'm a nanny because...why exactly? |
Reading this thread makes my blood run hot! I am a nanny and a good one at that but in no way do I feel entitled. I do feel as if a bonus for a good job is sort of expected. I have received a cash bonus every year for my entire career (18yrs) for doing a good job. However, this year it has changed. I have been with a new family only 3 months so no I didn't expect a weeks pay but something would have been nice. I received a card and a $50 gift card to a store I never shop at with the sentiments that they "really love me and appreciate all my Hardwork". I will say I have been extremely flexible, always early, have gotten the baby on a sleep and eating schedule ( sleeps throughout the night for over 2 months of my time here) and have the house running smoothly enough that mommy can have easy nights with her baby. This includes setting up bottles to get her through the night and many other little things. I always go above and beyond my duties to help the parents run their home. Well I DON'T feel appreciated. I feel very hurt. And to be completely honest the contemplation of taking another offer has been in the front of my mind. I have offers come in all the time and many times in front of my bosses but I never even considered jumping ship. Unfortunately for them there may be a first time for this.
And in comment to the "we make good money" stuff let me I enlighten you. I make ok money for my background but think about what you pay your nanny "live out" and the living cost we have. Well guess what? We all have cars, rent, utilizes, food, gas and everything else that is included in the cost of living just like everyone else. We are all struggling! So please get off your high horse! |
You are all very entitled. As a Harvard-educated government attorney, we received no bonuses at all for three years because there was no money. Only this year did we get one, and it was not a week's pay. So why do you expect a bonus? |
Because we work in a service industry where they are standard. You work in an industry where you are paid very well for the work you do. Why does your Harvard education matter exactly? |
Bonuses are not standard. They are earned. Why do some of you have such a hard time understanding this? |
Um, did you read this part? "All bonus payments are ALWAYS at the discretion of the employer, and the nanny's length of employment, overall performance, and the means of the employer are all factors in this decision." |
Obviously, yes. I read the entire page. Did you read the part that the "vast majority" of families give cash bonuses and the average is one to two weeks' pay? Standard does not mean OBLIGATORY, but it does mean it's expected. |
You may speak for yourself. For some of us, it is standard that we routinely earn a bonus. Of course, it pays to choose your employers wisely. |
And 4nannytaxes.com is always right. If it's on the internet it must be true. The nannies on this board are such an unrepresentative subset. |
What are you talking about now? |
