Reading this thread makes my blood run hot! I am a nanny and a good one at that but in no way do I feel entitled. I do feel as if a bonus for a good job is sort of expected. I have received a cash bonus every year for my entire career (18yrs) for doing a good job. However, this year it has changed. I have been with a new family only 3 months so no I didn't expect a weeks pay but something would have been nice. I received a card and a $50 gift card to a store I never shop at with the sentiments that they "really love me and appreciate all my Hardwork". I will say I have been extremely flexible, always early, have gotten the baby on a sleep and eating schedule ( sleeps throughout the night for over 2 months of my time here) and have the house running smoothly enough that mommy can have easy nights with her baby. This includes setting up bottles to get her through the night and many other little things. I always go above and beyond my duties to help the parents run their home. Well I DON'T feel appreciated. I feel very hurt. And to be completely honest the contemplation of taking another offer has been in the front of my mind. I have offers come in all the time and many times in front of my bosses but I never even considered jumping ship. Unfortunately for them there may be a first time for this. And in comment to the "we make good money" stuff let me I enlighten you. I make ok money for my background but think about what you pay your nanny "live out" and the living cost we have. Well guess what? We all have cars, rent, utilizes, food, gas and everything else that is included in the cost of living just like everyone else. We are all struggling! So please get off your high horse!
