Being a great nanny is indeed hard work, not to mention continuing education. And it happens to be work I adore. Of course it helps that I get paid double your average rate around here. Few families can afford my rates.

Again, you people have figured me out. I feel so entitled because I'm tired of nannies who don't do a good job turn around and complain about every little thing their employers do. I'm entitled because I believe a nanny is there not only for the child, but the family. I'm entitled because I take my job seriously. I'm entitled because while some of you feel taking care of a sick child is above and beyond what they were hired to do, I believe it is part of the job.

You are right though, I do look down on a majority of nannies. While I have come across some nannies who are great, the majority of nannies I have come across are not doing a good job. They think they can take care of children because it is easy money. But the truth is, being a great nanny is a lot of work.

That hasn't been my experience at all. It's unfortunate that you must disparage nearly every member of a profession based on interaction with a very minute number of its participants.
You cannot fairly and accurately make that judgement based on what you read on an anonymous forum nor what you experience in a tiny sliver of the world.

You are right, I have not met every nanny out there, but after observing nannies for almost 25 years in several different states, numerous playgrounds, preschools, art, music, gymboree and other classes, I would say most of those I have come across in different situations are not good nannies. I also have a high standard for what I would say was a great nanny. I have met some really great nannies, but they are in the minority of the nannies I have come across.

10:42, for $10.00/hr, for a nanny, you do not get Mary Poppins.
