I realize not that I charge too little RSS feed

I straight up don't believe being on ssi automatically disqualifies you from food stamps. If that were true my facebook feed would be flooded with memes of starving disabled people. That makes zero sense...you get ssi, live in a high COL area, so you have to starve or eat out of garbabge cans? Um, no.

$11/hour is pretty low for a legally hired nanny in DC, especially a college educated, native English speaker. I've seen things more like $15-$20. Ironically though, nannies who are "off the books" tend to be paid less. It is really a different market than nannies whose employees pay taxes. In your personal situation though, it may be that this family can not afford much more. Are you willing to change families for a pay raise?if not, this is all hypothetical.

Me again. Sorry just retread your post, and realized that you are asking about rates for 2 kids in the same family. Normally, I would think $16-$22 for that in DC/MD. (VA is lower.) But a raise from $11 to $16 is big, maybe more than this family can afford, especially if they are starting to pay taxes on top of that. Maybe $13-$14 would be more reasonable?

No, OP. This is perfectly appropriate. Being an international student does not give you an excuse for writing in an unclear fashion and wasting our time trying to follow you. PP was rightfully surprised since we expect folks with higher education to be able to express themselves clearly regardless of what their native language might be

OP stated that she is not a Native English speaker. Those rates do not apply to her

OP- you stated you are an international grad student which most likely means you have an F1 student visa. F1 visa let's you work for 20 hours on campus. I am an ex international graduate student and those were the rules. How are you expecting to be paid on the books if you should not be working outside your campus at all?

OP here. I am from an English speaking family and I speak Arabic as well. I also hold a dual citizenship so I'm fine. Unfortunately, my written English isn't great. My employers tell me that they have no problems understanding my English. I have decided to stay with my current nanny job which pays $20/hour. Thanks for all your help!

There's nothing wrong with your written English. Ignore the haters

I've been wondering about this as well.

If you are an F1, you are not legal to work, OP.

OP again. I am U.S. citizen so no problems there.

Oh, so you lied about being an international grad student?

Jesus Christ people, it is possible to be a US citizen but have been raised abroad and therefore still be an "international grad student". This is all irrelevant to the original post.
