Friend fired overweight nanny RSS feed

OP, it doesn't sound like you have the whole story. Obese discrimination does happen, but it would be at the time the nanny is hired, not 2 years later.

MYOB!

I wouldn't get into it unless she asks your opinion or you actually see something actionable (not just laziness) that is bad/dangerous for the kids.

Like PP's, I'm questioning how the nanny was fired for her weight after already working for the family for 2 years?

Tell the mother what the new nanny is like. I hope the old nanny is looking into suing for discrimination.

^^^ oh please, PP. Gimme a break.

Oh, please. Let's compare: 25 year old, fat nanny vs 55 year old, thin nanny. Who do you think is getting on the floor with the kids, climbing on playground equipment, playing tag, etc.?

I am so tired of hearing people say they are over weight but so healthy. Fact is if you are over weight or obese then you are NOT healthy. Any doctor will tell you that.

yep, I need to lose weight. A good amount too. I'm 40 and just had extensive bloodwork done including three month blood sugar average, cholesterol, iron, thyroid, and fasting blood sugar. I take a thyroid medicine which puts my thyroid into the normal range and everything else is healthy. One of the moms I work for is thin add a tail and an insulin dependent diabetic. Thin does not equal 5 healthy and fat does not equal unhealthy. Weight is only one part of the picture.

Yes! Thank you! There's always a handful who say how they're overweight but exercise and eat totally healthy all the time. It's bullshit. If you really lived the healthy lifestyle you try to make people believe you live, you wouldn't be overweight. Period. Or the ones who use medical excuses for their weight. Sure I believe those conditions exist, but they're few and far between.

You're an idiot. Fat people don't need you to tell them they are fat.

Medical reasons are a lot more common than you think. The reason a lot of overweight people don't have medical tests run are because of your typr of mindset. They think that they must just use will power and they will succeed, often that is not the case.

-Nanny/Mother who was obese until seeing a doctor and finding out she had a hormone issue, and shed weight fairly easily after being medicated.

I have a friend who is obese, but does at least one 5k/month and has completed a triathlon recently. Her hormonal imbalances prevent her from losing weight.
