I'm the OP and I think this is a good point - I don't think it would be fair to say "you won't have a car, but you can get around other ways, so don't worry about it" and leave it at that. It's one reason we are only looking at AP candidates who do not own their own car and who do not say things like "I drive every day and I love driving!" We also send a thoroughly annotated map of the area which includes walking distance to the Metro and the downtown area. We say multiple times during the matching process that we don't have a car and what that means for getting around. We give her a SmartCard with some money to get her started and take her around the system as part of the training process right in the beginning. She also sees us using buses, biking, walking, or Metroing every single day. |
