Should I charge extra? RSS feed

Op here. I'm not being petty. It's about respect for my time. Not necessarily the extra cash. Although I make $19/hr so it definitely adds up. And FWIW, we don't have a give and take relationship. They love pushing my boundaries to see what I will and won't accept.

I would just assert that you need to leave AT 5. If you feel uncomfortable just flat out asking for that, you should either make weekly plans or even just tell DB you have weekly plans (ie. I'll be taking a class Friday evenings, and I really need to leave right at 5 to make it on time, so can we input my hours Friday morning instead of afternoon?). If they're still keeping you extra even after that, then I would start charging.

Pp that's a really good idea. I graduated from college in January and am starting a career in my field in December (family knows this) so this job is just to hold me over until then. I would look for a better family, but in this economy I feel lucky to have a well-paying job to hold me over until i start my career. Thanks for the advice!

What a rude boss {!}

Your time is YOUR time and it is just as important as anyone else's. Sheesh.

Anyway, he may have no idea this is taking as long as it is or maybe he just doesn't think it is a big deal. Men can think this way sometimes.

I advise you to kindly remark that you need to leave by a certain time...meaning walk out the door at a specific time. If you have to lie, just say you need to meet someone somewhere and cannot be late. Hopefully he will get the hint.

If you asked me to pay you for the 15 minutes, and there was no way for me to get it done earlier, I would change your payday to Monday for the previous week.

OP, do you think the reason he waits until the last minute to cut you the check is that he wants to make sure that you actually work all the hours he is paying you for? Or is he a procrastinator? I assume you are always on time because he might use this as an excuse to dock you for being a few minutes late in the future.

I assume you pay varies based on how many hours you work in a given week. If that is the case, it sounds like the solution is to pay you the following week for the preceding Monday through Friday. DB is doing you a courtesy by dropping whatever he is doing to process your hours and pay you on Fridays.

Paying her for hours she worked is in no way doing her a courtesy. He could have planned better, as most people don't get paid for their hours the very week they work them, but her DB set it up this way. OP if your issue is that you'd like to leave on time, suggest he start paying you on Monday.
