I usually get a "prize" once a month. They are usually a gift cards or a spa treatment. But every 6 months its something really nice like an iPad (the original then an upgrade to the most recent one), an extra vacation where they pay for everything or they pay for a friend to come visit and any activity we do while they are there.

For Thanksgiving I received a "mommy" necklace with charms of the kids names. I thought it was totally weird at first. But MB felt that since I have been with the kids for 6 of their 7 years of life, this was a way to show she was thankful for all I have done in helping raise them.

I work for wonderful people and I know they are truly appreciative.

Wow, that's very generous. My MB gives me little things here and there but what is even better than that is the level of mutual respect. MB and DB are almost never late coming home and if they are it is usually less than 10 minutes. I never make a big deal about it but they are always very apologetic. This week MB was 20 minutes late one night and 10 minutes late another night (plus the five minutes that I spend giving her a recap of our day before I leave). For today she told me to come in 15 minutes later than my regular start time, and they are letting me go two hours early (but of course paying me for the whole day). She felt bad about coming home late and wanted to make it up to me. It was completely unnecessary, but absolutely appreciated!

These are some great MBs... It's so simple to show appreciation and mutual respect, in both small things and big things. It's these simple things that allow for the nanny/employer relationship to grow and flourish!
