DC took the SAT first time without prep and tutoring and scored 1050. I hired a Stanford grad who was home for the summer and paid her $125/hr for 50 hours one-on-one. DC took the SAT in August and score 1510. I spent another 20 hours one-on-one with the Stanford grad before she left for school and DC took it again shortly after and scored 1590. You can't go wrong with Stanford grad for SAT prep. |
Used Prep Matters one-on-one with great results.
Jump in 5 points on ACT composite score between first and second test. Tutors used were great. |
Is "Stanford grad" a company name? Would you mind sharing the name of this great tutor (or their business website)? |
My Daughter did Prep Matters and loved her tutor and went up four points on ACT. She did Skype only in her bedroom two times a week.
Believe it or not at Prep Matters the Skype version has better results than in person and costs less |
I tutored for PrepMatters years ago. (I'm a Harvard grad/National Merit Scholar.) They were by far the most discerning of the test prep companies - required very high historic scores and on an in-office test, plus a teaching tryout - and I was thoroughly impressed with their training and support. If I still lived in DC would send my child there and nowhere else.
(I haven't been connected with PM in ages but still think of them as one of the best employers I've ever had.) |
We are current PrepMatters clients, and are having good success preparing for fall with the one-on-one tutoring. We compared prep class vs. tutor. Both were going to cost about the same $2000. Tutoring was better for us for efficiency sake. The SAT prep class we looked at was about 40 hours, and covered more topics than needed. My kid needed a deep dive into certain areas, but not others. So to avoid boredom, tutoring was the superior choice. You have to know your kid. |
