Sorry, OP, I think they were responding to my post ("Another one") and you got caught in the cross-fire. I'm the poster that originally commented on how many threads of 40+ might be/don't want to be pregnant women there have been lately. I completely agree with everything you wrote, especially the last sentence.


THanks. The responders I don't get are the ones who snap, "We're fine with getting pregnant in our 40s."

Then fine, if you want to/are open to having a baby, then you don't need birth control. Just down roll on the DCUM next month saying how "shocked" you are.

Women quite easily get pregnant in their early 40s especially. In fact a woman should count on a 40s baby if they aren't using birth control.

I love my Mirena IUD!

No hassles, no side effects. Lasts for five years. Can be removed easily by a GYN if you change your mind and want to go for another child. (Not that we do. I'm 42 and we are done.)

FAAAAAAR safer than the pill for women over 35, FAAAAAAR safer than AMA pregnancy. NO LIBIDO OR HORMONAL ISSUES.

Gawd, you'd think people who have been on earth for 40+ years would know a goddamn thing about birth control and know bc =/= the pill.

I care so much because of all the threads from 40-something women who are shocked -- shocked! -- that they might be pregnant, despite not using birth control.


So what? What on earth difference does that make to you? Thank goodness you don't have any real problems, I don't think you could handle it.

It's not that OP isn't smart enough to understand the reasons, it's that there has been thread after thread these past few months of women in their 40s posting that they weren't using birth control and might be pregnant, don't want to be pregnant, aren't sure if they want to be pregnant, don't know what to do. Reading about women in their 40s who just neglected to use birth control and are now terminating a pregnancy because they didn't think they could get pregnant at 41 (42, 43, etc.) and already have enough kids is mind-boggling and irritating. I guess I expect better of women in this area.

To the PP who said it couldn't happen to her at 48 . . . yes, the chances are very slim but there was a long thread on pregnancies in the late 40s not that long ago. My own grandmother got pregnant naturally at 47 in what had to have been a one-shot deal.

I'm sorry - I guess . .

I'm 48. I married late - at 37, got pregnant on my honeymoon and delivered #1 at 38.

At 41, I got pregnant again (planned, one-shot deal), and delivered at 42.

I'm 48 and dread the thought of being pregnant ever again.

But if you're happy and OK with it, then much luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
