Huh?
Yeah you can write a code to populate all the forms automatically using speech.
Cs is more than just writing code.
Uh huh and the least of it is writing code. So what are we crying about here
Unemployment and underemployment for recent graduates.
Not an issue at top schools (top20 private, T5-6 public).
I keep forgetting everyone here has exceptional children that all go to T-20s and land first jobs at a FAANG making $500k-$1M.
Now do the other 375 schools that real people go to.

Well, engineers get paid pretty well, so..
They’re paid like cops.

ok, that's not good, but a 7/11 cashier isn't gunning for CS jobs so this is irrelevant to the thread. But, thanks for sharing.

How could you forget that DCUM is in Lake Wobegon where all the children are above average?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Computer Science has one of the highest unemployment rates for recent graduates. Everyone thought it was a lock for highly compensated jobs right out of school. Colleges and universities currently have overpopulated CS pipelines that dump new grads into an economy and workforce that don’t want employees without years of real world experience. Couple that with the influence AI is currently exerting on the profession and it makes it very risky to pay hundreds of thousands for a degree that could be incredibly devalued by 2030.

Yup, and those posting about CS don't even understand its more than just coding.
We understand recent graduates can’t get jobs.

No experience, no luck. The market is awash in RIFed workers with experience. New graduates need not apply.

This is what our May 2025 CS grad has found. The only people he knows with CS jobs are those who got them through nepotism. I think if you can’t land that first internship, it is incredibly difficult because one internship leads to the next once you have experience.
NP here. My DS is a CS Major class of 2025. He did not have an internship that he was selected for, but in his junior year joined an AI club at school that led to joining a startup. DS put in over 1000 apps and joined Google as a SWE July 2025. No nepotism, no internal referral either. He says that the smart CS kids he graduated with have jobs....he was not at a a top 5 CS program either. There is hope!
