If you play it right and dont run towards it chances are it will mutate down to something much more docile. Ot they wil develop vaccine and that is also safer approach then head on at the new untamed beast.

I was the one who made that point. The colleges, with dorm living, should also be littered with cases, given that Chinese students came back mid January. They simply aren't. Consider how many people live in China and how many actually have the virus. That should help you put it into perspective. And draconian measures would only go so far to control a virulent outbreak. Think about the flu pandemic in 1916 and how fast it spread around the world WITHOUT air travel. This simply isn't that. We are also moving into March and a lot of the country is warming up fast. Weather predictions are a warmer than normal spring for a lot of the country.

Regarding how long the virus lives on surfaces, did you know that the rabies virus survives days on a surface in laboratory conditions, especially in water? Yet how many indirect contact rabies cases are there in the real world? The reason is, is that viruses are fragile and many things can affect their survivability. Even a slight breakdown makes it less virulent.

When my daughter was asthmatic, the pulmonologist told me that outdoors, a coronavirus is only about 10% transmissible. Inside can be as high as 80% but this was only because she was a child, and you know how disgusting kids are (LOL - snot everywhere, coughing in faces, etc). Adults act very differently.

Me? I plan to drive up to my kid's college and get him for spring break rather than have him fly. Might avoid crowded rest stops in favor of smaller off-exit stops, but I'd do the same during flu season regardless. If it hits here hard, I am off to the beach house with whomever wants to go with me. Divide and conquer - closer to my college kid and makes me readily available to get him at the drop of a hat.

FWIW, I keep hand sanitizer in the car and use it religiously. I always wipe carts down, etc. I haven't had a cold in ages. Our housekeeper came here sick today (grrr) so I will take down all hand towels and dish towels and into a hot wash they go.


This is too funny. We have a beach house in Bethany and DH said the same thing the other day. If it hits here, pack up and go stay at our beach house in less dense and more rural DE.

How do you like it !!!...4,091 more recoveries then new sick

New cases changed from 81,296 to 83,379 = 2083 new cases
Recovered cases changed from 30,359 to 36,533 = 6174 new recovered cases

As more and more people are finally recovering the recovery cases grow now faster then new cases.

Those students didn’t have coronavirus.


So clearly if they came straight from the epicenter and were not infected, perhaps China is lying?


They could have been asymptomatic carriers. Or not. Remember when it was happening China had like 80 cases in total. Besides We were not doing any testing right? So we can not be sure. Kids can be spreaders without symptoms.

I don't know if this is good news or not but it appears that Chinese men have been more vulnerable than Chinese women. My DH heard on the radio (so no cite on this) that the fatality rates for men not in the elderly age group have been far higher than women. What I do know about China is that they have far more smokers than the US - primarily men. Women are less likely to smoke by a large margin. And, the air pollution in Wuhan might not be matched in any US city.

So, I can unscientifically infer that a higher percentage of their lungs (meaning male smokers) may be more stressed that the average non-smoking American lungs. Less stress on the lungs = perhaps a more positive outcome.

I'm not saying that all Chinese men smoke. We have an office of China and none of my male colleagues smoke at all and they are quite health conscious. But, there are more smokers there generally.

Thank you!! Stay safe as well. Something else to consider is that coronavirus does die out as the weather warms. Summer colds are usually due to enterovirus.

My thought is that if this ends up getting me, it's my time. And trust me, I'm usually the one most freaked out about stuff like this. For some reason, I'm just not. The fact that this has gone political tells me that we are in the 'never let a crisis go to waste' mode and in a true threat of pandemic, there would be no time for that.
