I think this comes from the fact that people are so obsessed about what others think of them. So many people have such a need to be accepted by everyone. But everyone cannot be mainstream.

I'm white and am married to a black man. I don't care if I see "interracial" couples on tv. I don't care if people support or criticize us. I don't need a cheerio commercial. That recent one would be cute with any couple and any cute kid. My husband and I are just living our lives the best we can. Sometimes, I feel a little patronized when people feel the need to voice their support for us, and by interracial commercials. It's fine to me if that's who they happen to cast, but I think it's weird to purposely cast an interracial couple to make a statement.

I think Don Draper won the Cheerios account.
