I was thinking NOVA will feel it from the Hispanic population shrinkage and federal workers.

“I think the Washington region has just become less attractive,” said Lyles Carr, a longtime leader of a top local headhunting firm. “Why stay in the high-cost Washington area if your job is less secure and your public service motivation is gone? If I’m going to move to the commercial sector, why don’t I move to Nashville or Cincinnati or somewhere lower cost?”

It'll shrink the white rich and black rich populations which leaves...

Thread in RE forum on future of DC and brainstorming potential scenarios. Since it's so chaotic now and none of us can predict, we can only brainstorm. Positive and negative scenarios.

What will deep dark recession in DC look like?

I bet the city will get substantially smaller. People will just leave. Widespread business closures will follow. Get ready for a lot more empty storefronts.

In which areas? Which areas of DC will still be ok?

And it's all being done deliberately. We are in a very different world than we were six weeks ago. It's just beginning. Destroying the DMV is a policy goal for this administration.

What do you think is going to happen?

Crime is down significantly, read up.

Crime is down significantly, yes, from the exorbitant level it was at recently with the most homicides and carjackings in recent history. Yes, indeed, it's come down from "very high" to "high", so amazing. Talk like this is why DC's ability to self-govern is doubted. Have you removed the "all under 26-year-olds shall have the same protections as juveniles"-rule yet?
Is hijacking a car still treated as "not a real crime"? Then, take a seat.

If teachers are hit or kicked, are they actually suspended? Nope.

The DMV is going to lose a lot more. Virginia and Maryland are looking very scary right now.

All these unemployed federal workers will still have to feed their families.

They won’t have any options soon and will all have to turn to street crime just to get by.

This wins the stupidest comment of the day. Laid off feds will find other jobs and will relocate out of the region to where the jobs are like it happens in localized recession markets. This is what people tend to do if unable to afford to live in a place unemployed. Those with pensions and those able to find other jobs in the region or remote will remain.
