My parents' Medicare is great.
You have poor health insurance because you have a cheap employer.
and this is exactly why health insurance should not be tied to employment.
I support comprehensive state backed health care coverage if the median American took care of themselves like the median Japanese, Singaporean, Italian, Spanish or Swiss person
Way too many Americans put themselves and their families in suboptimal health thru their own actions
? Have you ever been to Italy or Spain? They smoke and drink quite a bit.
i can speak about Italy - alcohol consumption in Italy per capita is lower than the us because hard liquor culture isn’t really there
Negronis, aperol spritz, grappa etc are not very strong.
Smoking is rife but food quality, walking, and chillaxing in the sun are way higher also
Americans consume about 20% more alcohol per capita than Italians

what we need is single payer/universal- our healthcare system has been horrible since the deregulation of the Reagan era
NP: Obamacare was the most expensive disaster. I doubt anyone will dare touch healthcare again in decades.

ACA isn’t insurance. It just made it possible for people to purchase insurance without having an employer program. It also got rid of some of Big Insurance’s most egregious practices, like lifetime limits and pre-existing conditions.
Insurance is a complete racket and we would all be better served by a single payer option.
with no connection to employment.
Would health care providers still find ways to overcharge and obfuscate?
+1
I've worked for a small company since 2016. In the beginning we'd use my insurance to cover the family, but every year our out-of-pocket costs kept going up. A few years ago we switched to my wife's plan (she's a fed) and we're getting the same care but paying way less. Those explanations of benefits are a real eye-opener...pediatrician bills the insurance $500 for a routine checkup, insurance pays all of it. The government does a fine job covering our medical expenses...let them handle others' too.

Thank goodness for the ACA, which offers less exorbitant healthcare to millions of patients who did not have it previously.
My family is one of them. I know what I'm talking about.

Are you stupid?
Insurance doesn’t matter when PCPs switch to concierge.
+ 100. My dad and in-laws have had amazing healthcare under Medicare which, in essence, is a single payer system. My dad and MIL had open-heart surgery at world-class medical centers and no bills. I'll be eligible for Medicare in 2 years and can't wait.
My DH's union health insurance (and pension) are both amazing. We are blessed. Anyone who's complaining about their healthcare should consider changing employers since that's how most of us get health coverage. Prioritize your health--your life depends on it.
It doesn’t matter what insurance you have when doctors ditch all insurance.

How does this not register in your brain?
