Very DC and MOCO heavy responses. Our DD will be a first-time camper next summer. Any feedback on camps in Arlington, Falls Church, maybe even close-in McLean? From what we hear, Congo Camp is the gold standard. Others to consider or avoid?

JO WIlson Elementary School is hosting our 2nd Annual Summer Camp Fair on January 21, 2016 at J.O. Wilson Elementary School from 6-8 p.m. As part of the Capitol Hill Cluster Schools, J.O. Wilson wanted to share this information with as many families as possible. Summer Camp is a very important topic for most DC families and finding the right one is always a challenege. We have invtied over 30 summer camp vendors to this event, all from the D.C., Maryland, and Virigina area, with many statrting to R.S.V.P. We hope to have a great turnout and get the word out to all of our DC metro area familes.

Don't wait until its too late. Get started now and find the right camp for your little one(s).

Did anyone else find CASA CLK a bit disappointing in 2015?

How was St. Patrick's Camp in 2015? I am particularly interested in the language program.

Ideaventions was a big hit for 6yo DS the last week of the summer. The theme was "Engineering in Video Games." Two activities each day were related to an engineering concept drawn from a video game, eg building a structure that protected 3 piggies from the angry birds. They also had computer lab each day where they created their own video game which was uploaded to the web at the end of the week. They ate lunch outside and went to a nearby park for outdoor time. All in all a great week. Would definitely do it again.

A second for the thumbs up for sandy spring. Dd liked it a lot and she is not one that is easy to please.

Also a good experience for my littlest (4) at Camp Sonshine. On no notice (child care crisis on my end) they signed him up and he had a very good time after getting used to it on day 1. It was his first experience all day like his so I consider a one day transition to be a big success!

6year old DD at steve and Kate's for the week. She is having fun at the playground and water play. But, the indoor set up is spartan. They literally have cardboard set ups. Dark and dank on the inside so not a good place when it rains. Total lack of supervision too. This seems ok for occasional drop offs and a week here and there, but I cannot see sending her all summer.

Sandy Spring Friends Camp!!!

Exceptional counselors, daily swim fun/instruction in pond, tons of outdoor time, lunch and snacks are provided, bus option, before/after care option, and just really caring, fun, kind and goofy staff. Also, fun days like color wars, cowboy day, superheroes, festivals etc...my 4 year old went knowing no one and left having the time of his life!!!

My DS is loving lego camp at Sidwell. He jumps in the car every afternoon glowing with happiness about whatever their daily project is. And from his description, they seem to be doing more elaborate projects than we could do at home.

Another family who is finishing up several weeks at Headfirst at St. Albans. We did a mix of day camp, multi-sport and science and engineering for a rising first grader. Camp was great, very well organized, and he had a great time.

My rising first grader loved the Bethesda Soccer camp at Sidwell in Bethesda and PPA soccer at Stone Ridge (though the latter is a pain to get in and out of right now with all the construction). We've been trying to get him interested in sports over the last couple years without too much success, and have been amazed at his transformation after three weeks of the soccer camps. Despite the fact that he's very obviously hot and tired from the 9:00-3:00 schedule, he's been begging us to play soccer with him all evening. We've set up goals and cones in the living room so he and his siblings can play while I cook dinner.

We did 4 weeks of Headfirst camps and my DC really liked it. A little bit lighter on the swimming than I thought, but overall a great experience.

Happy with Summer Horizons (nps). Joined for a couple of the weekly sessions on a whim and found it to be extremely well organized and staff very communicative. They greeted dc by name by the second day. Daily creative projects were brought home with pride. We received a mid-week newsletter with photos. Swimming lessons also were a big hit. A final progress report was included on the last day. To me, the swimming alone (at AU) was worth it.
