Brookside poster here.

For a fantastic public school experience, look at the nokesville school. It is k-8. Then brentsville hs is on the same campus. Pic teachers clamoring to teach there.

The homes new, but area is more rural. Big lots (1 acre +). It is where we'd move if we were moving.

Our only downside to brookside is our lot is small and the neighbors are close.

For someone coming from the city, it wouldn't be a big deal. Parents bring out their lawn chairs and hang out in one another's driveway while the kids play. It's pretty awesome.

And as far as restaurants....gainesville has a nice shopping center with good restaurants. Some chain (Cava) and some local (pizza Margherita)

Honestly I was just a "city girl" before I got married and had kids. Liked walking everywhere. Good food, etc. Arlington felt soooo suburban. It's hilarious though cause I live in Ballston and can walk everywhere and yet I hate all the cars and worry all the time about my kids out walking with their nanny or grandma. I've evolved

I still work in the city so the commute would kill me but I love this Mayberry idea, more diverse views, and freedom to parent my kids as I see fit.

DP. You’ll want to think long and hard about this if you’re truly a “city girl” at heart. I am not a “city girl” at heart, I grew up in western NY, and while I loved the city life for my 20s, by the time I got into my 30s and then had kids I wanted something more similar to where I grew up. I also have no desire to return to the city life once my kids are out of the house, it is completely out of my system. It is truly lovely out here, but it is a completely different world. For example, there are definitely good restaurants, but you don’t have the range of choices you do in the city. You can have some walkability, but that would mean you live either near or in Warrenton’s historic district or in Vint Hill. I don’t find the commute soul sucking because I don’t do it every day, and I was commuting 45 minutes by car to DC from close in MoCo anyway so the extra 15-30 minutes to get out here doesn’t phase me. If you hate driving though, that’s something to consider. I would spend some weekends out here, get to know the different neighborhoods, meet people (we were stunned even on visits before moving how nice people were), check out the restaurant scene, and get a feel for whether this would be too suburban for you.
