As a frequent flier I will say that airlines really need to have policies around this. It’s not fair to anyone now. I have to admit I’m tired of having my limited space taken up by seat mates. There have been times I can’t get my work done because I don’t have room to move my arms enough to type on my laptop.

I can't remember the last time I was on a flight with empty seats - usually they're begging people to check carry-ons because it's full. So switching seats would be impossible.
I fly a lot, and many of the flights I take are 80% full or less. Travel to non-warm destinations (Europe for example) in the fall and winter, or just about anywhere on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Saturday is the least busy day of the week for flying.
Saturday? Why? I doubt that.
Why who flies on a Saturday night? You're losing half the weekend.

Lady was rude. I wouldn't have been that way, but i avoid confrontation like the plague. I don't blame her for having that reaction.
Agreed. Also agree that if you need a seatbelt extended, you should be REQUIRED to purchase an extra seat. And why didn't one of them offer to take the middle seat so that she'd at least have a little breathing room on the aisle?? Flying is bad enough these days without being physically tortured.
How many of you pay extra for certain seats on a plane when you fly? ALMOST ALL OF YOU. This couple bought the window and aisle seats. They don't have to move.
Sitting the middle sucks no matter who you are. If you don't want to sit there, buy a window or aisle seat.
I've sat next to innumerable man-spreaders -- including men who actually think they can shove their foot under the seat in front of ME. I would say 90% of men think the armrest belongs to them regardless of which seat they're sitting in.
As PPs have noted -- if you want to be comfortable flying, fly private or first class.
This is so true. I've sat next to some guys who were clearly obsessed with the gym. They were pretty to look at, but their shoulders and arms took up practically half my seat. Yet, somehow it's okay for them to only have to buy 1 seat and no one shames them about being squished sitting next to them. this happened to me a lot. It's annoying and I hate it - but I would never do what that woman did to any type of big person (obese or gym-obsessed)
Y'all need to tell me what airlines and more info about how you fly, because I have never once seen anyone buff taking up any kind of space. It is not the "shoulders" that are generally the problem. A for effort, however.
