Honestly I don't think his plan was THAT bad. It all fell apart because Shannan told every single thing to her BFF - including details on their sex lives - and had asked her to take her to a 8AM doctor's appointment, so the friend called the police immediately when she didn't pick up.

I mean there are friends and there are friends. But even I am stump that they went to a 2-day conference together, stayed in the same hotel room together, took a flight back together, drove home together at 2AM, and were still raring to see each other again at 8AM the same morning.

Who does that? That's an unreal bond or dependency - I can't tell which.

The friend called to check on her in the morning because she had been upset on the trip. There weren’t plans to go together to the dr appt. the friend didn’t go to her house until several hours later when she couldn’t get ahold of her.

Agree with the tmi sharing with friends, but I think that’s how some people who aren’t super close with their spouses, or are stressed about their marriages, operate.

Regarding the stupidity, it was the immediate agreeing to the polygraph that struck me.

Yeah, you would think most people would have seen enough cop shows to know you shut up and ask for an attorney at that point

I was stunned neither he nor the girlfriend had an attorney present for their investigations. I mean, I've hired an attorney to fight a speeding ticket, I would say nothing without first calling an attorney.

I watched this documentary, thinking it would be like Dateline. It was more personal than a news formatted crime show because of all the texts, home videos and police camera footage. I hadn't followed the case on the internet, so hadn't seen a lot of the background previously. I found it really, really disturbing. It was such an awful crime and the victims were so real because of the personal elements.

I sheepishly admit to watching a lot of video of him (pretty much all that Shannan every posted which is a ton) and he's clearly not the brightest guy at all. He was honestly pretty dumb.
What I'm surprised about is that the girlfriend could put up with it. She's bright and college educated. I guess she thought he was hot. But he was pretty much as dumb as a rock.

She seemed like an annoying attention-hungry narcissist, but that’s a lot better than being an evil psychopath. I mean if you’re too broke too divorce, just bail.

Bail and go where?

This. She was delusional and controlling. She didn’t deserve to die, but most people “miss” her b/c she was brutally murdered. If she were alive, they would be avoiding her. She didn’t seem like a nice person at all. He’s obviously worse.

Glad he is where he definitely belongs.
In a cell, for 23 hours every. single. day.
Only can get out for a shower or to exercise.

I agree that he lost those sixty-five lbs. so he could have an affair.
His appearance changed so dramatically.
He went from schmuck >> hunk.

I believe that he killed Bella + Celeste because he didn’t want to get found out that he killed his wife.

Well it’s pretty obvious that was his motivation for killing his kids.

Was it officially verified that this is the order it happened in? I always wondered whether he killed one of the girls while she was out of town and the rest followed.

Autopsies proved the girls were still breathing or at least living when they were put in the oil drums.

Also I don't think the initial reason he killed the girls was to cover up his wife's murder. Remember he strangled both kids first, then he went after the wife in bed. The kids woke up from his suffocation attempt and he bundled them into the truck with the mother's dead body.

They were alive for the car ride.

Where are you getting this information from?

They have Shannan and Chris' texts. Some of it is just so foreboding its crazy.

'You can believe I created this dagger, but I didn't do that. I stood up for our kids, I advocated and protected our children. I don't ever want to hear "l'm sorry I killed your kid because I was stupid." That would kill me.

'These kids are my world and I have to protect them from the evil of the world. I shouldn't have to protect them from evil family. Our kids deserve the same love and attention the other kids get, nothing less.

No it fell apart because dumb @ss failed a polygraph he voluntarily took. Then they found the mistress of course.

It wouldn't have fallen apart in the first day and the police wouldn't have arrested him and asked for a polygraph within 48 hours if the BFF hadn't called the police within 3 hours of Shannan's death.

He literally was in his truck racing over from the dump site to get to his front door where the police were waiting.

I am actually shocked the police did a wellness check this quickly.

I think shannan is wearing the flip flops she was wearing when she came home in:

No tights and apparently her T-shirt and underwear.

Where did you get this info about the kids (still alive when placed in oil drums and the first unsuccessful strangulations).

Its all detailed on the first thread (taken from interviews with Chris, police reports, and sleuthing forums)
