Same. We actually started with Santa labels on all our gifts but at 3 or 4, very observant DS asked why we didn't give him anything when he got gifts from his grandparents and aunts and uncles. So we switched to one Santa gift + stocking. The rest from Mom and Dad.

We tell him to ask Santa for one or two things and nothing too big because Santa has a lot of kids to get presents for.

Parents bring the rest. Why should santa get all of the credit?

I never counted, just aimed for a general balance. Little items went in the stocking. Anything really large, irregularly shaped, or otherwise difficult to wrap was from Santa (who leaves unwrapped gifts). If they had specifically asked Santa for something, then that was usually from him. Otherwise, I kind of assigned the rest between parents and Santa in whatever fashion seemed to balance things out.

My kids are too old for Santa, but we always did one gift from Santa and Santa also filled the stockings. We also only did one gift from parents because my kids got gifts from two sets of grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

The rule of 3 from Santa. One toy for each gift one of the wise men gave to Jesus. Then for Partent gifts, I do about 9.

We keep it pretty simple on Xmas. Each child had five wrapped gifts each under the tree (no longer believe in Santa) plus stocking with one toy and chocolate. They are mid-elementary. One sports-related item, book, clothes, big ticket item (ipod). Then they receive gifts from grandparents/family when we see them later in the week. We have enough crap in our house so I am happy to keep new items to a minimum and the kids are happy with their big ticket items and the books they wanted.
