I thought I had seen some of the world, but this list makes me realize how much I'd like to explore. I think the "best places" really have to do with the experiences I've had there, with the people at that time in my life.

I've loved canyoning in ventimiglia with friends; backpacking around greece in my 20s; honeymoon in tulum in a romantic thatch roof shack on the beach--this was long before it was the place it is now (and I would not travel there now) ; hawaii as a kid (maui, kauai seemed like paradise and was my first time snorkeling); trekking in Peru (salkantay mountain and sacred valley) with friends; renting a house with friends in the dordogne and caving, canoeing, and eating/drinking a ton; and staying in a family run ranch in the central valley in costa rica where we rode horses and went to local hot springs and saw quetzal and tapir (far from the touristy costa rica we also visited). I've also been to paris 20+ times and always enjoy the trip. Also really loved melbourne and sydney! Also lived in italy a few months (Venice) and loved it, but my experience was not what it would be today.

Places that I think I didn't have enough time or the right company ,was mostly business, or that I found interesting but didnt "love": beijing; seoul; munich (and stuttgart but that was all business); belize (was fine for a short trip but didn't love); riviera maya (okay for when kids were little); jamaica (same as riviera maya but beaches nicer).

Places that deserve a second trip so I can really spend time: Japan (went to tokyo in lc. 2005 and basically got lost all the time, was on business so had little extr time to explore); Berlin. I think I need to give Vienna another shot (liked, did not love, same as Budapest) and really make it to Prague.

Northern Ireland: Belfast, Portrush!, Carrickfergus, Larne, Donegal

never experienced more hospitable, genuine people.

Southern five Utah national parks. (Arches, Canyonlands and Bryce were my favorites)

I have loved different places for different things. I think you should do your own research instead of asking other people because their answer probably is specific in why they loved it and may not be what you are seeking.

Iceland - just other worldly
Italy, UK - beautiful architecture and rolling country side
South Korea - food, shopping (for those of us petite gals; not so great for the larger sizes)

I haven't traveled that extensively, but those are some of the places that stand out to me personally.

The place I love the most is the Lake District in northern England.
