At a merit college, the kid can be a big fish in a smaller pond. That can do wonders for confidence.

Not that poster but is it possible you are just a jealous that her kids did well because they got acceptances at Barnard, and let's say for the sake of your argument, Pomona and Davidson (with merit). It certainly could be perceived that way.
