Screw you PP. The mom chose to adopt OP, not the other way around. It's possible that given their culture that the mom probably adopted as an 'insurance' for her old age instead of wanting to parent a child out of goodwill.

You sound sort of dangerous to interact with PP, but -- the OP's mother is MENTALLY ILL. You can't blame the mentally ill for their mental illness.
The world needs more people who are able to stand up and be the healthy ones, helping the unhealthy people who can't take care of themselves. This is not a mentally ill person on the street -- the OP has a huge connection to this person, and yes, they do have a moral obligation to help them.
Financial exploitation is never ok. What makes you say that the mom is mentally ill?
The OP said the woman was too physically decrepit and mentally ill to work any longer. How is it financial exploitation to ask a younger person, capable of working -- WHO IS ALSO YOUR CHILD -- to give you money? That seems totally rational and normal to me. It's also such small amounts of money. Sheesh. There is no parallel universe where people get to be their better selves so they can be uncaring assholes in this one and still consider themselves "good." This is it. Sounds like a person too old and mentally ill to work deserves a hand out. That's not "exploitation" in a civilized society.
Did you read the OP? It's exploitation to take a kid's piggy bank money, bursary money and make them work in their teens to support the household. It's also inappropriate to make a young person handle the bills at home and to make phone calls on one's behalf begging for money. It sounds like a very dysfunctional dynamic and I don't think OP needs to continue that if they (dunno if OP is male or female) don't want to.

You have to set boundaries otherwise this will never stop.
I suggest you only give her money if she is danger of losing a roof over her head, or if she's in medical need and needs help paying those bills. Or food, if she becomes really poor.
Basically NEEDS, not wants. And she's not there yet, so save your money, say no to every frivolous demand, and one day you might have a legitimate reason to help.
