Perhaps this aide, who has her own history, and her own personality, just needs to be given the opportunity to not be pandering to a set of kids she perceives as indignant or spoiled. This could be the best solution for all involved, and if, as you say, the Principal is listening and looking for a solution, she'll be watching closely. How about everyone just chill, and if you have continued concerns, take them to her directly.
I know - crazy idea vs. bitching on an anonymous board, one is much more satisfying, but the woman that started this thread clearly has a chip - her intentions were not good and we can just shut it down and talk to the Principal directly now shall we?
This principal is clearly posting here and on the other thread. She has used the same language, such as spoiled, indignant and entitled to describe teachers, parents and children at Lafayette. (Hello DCPS?). She's extremely controlling. It's interesting that she thinks she can actually shut down threads on an anonymous message board. Just add it to the file and pray her contract isn't renewed.

I am not the person on the other thread. However, you certainly have a way with words. Charming.
"Well, tell you what PP- if you have no problem with it - stop being a chicken shit, put on your big girl panties and go have a conversation with her about it. So f-ing big of you to bitch on an anonymous board, and then start a thread about the PK4 aides you don't like. I have no problem with telling you you're an ass."

What other thread? I don't see another thread about Lafayette.
What makes you think this was posted by the principal?

Only time will tell. She might have just been burnt out herding cats - maybe when she gets to work one on one with kids, it will improve.
This makes me sick to my stomach.
Putting an abusive staff member in a position with the most vulnerable children, and where she's most likely to be alone with them, seems like a really bad idea.
The difference will be that I think she will always be in the presence of other teachers. Her nasty side only ever surfaced when she was alone with the class and couldn't control them. But on the whole, I agree.
In my experience, special education aides are alone with students more often, and are under more pressure to get kids to "behave". [/quo
Please talk to the Principal about your concerns, thanks.

I wish she were fired and not just shifted to an older grade, but apparently she has tenure. I still think verbal abuse should be a fireable offense. At least one other aide who is a yeller is still in place and I hope more changes are made. I've complained to the principal about the yelling I've seen. I hope other parents do the same so that something will change. I have hope it will with the new principal.
This is such good news! For those of us who tried in the past and were met with ambivalence and disregard this is very promising. Many of us who went through PreK couldn't do anything except accept the situation or pull our kids out. Lafayette is a great school but has a lot of dirty laundry that some don't want aired publicly. Regardless, it sounds like the new principal is addressing some of these long term issues. Hopefully the tide will change and those of us who were frustrated, disappointed and perplexed won't feel like the only place to bring up these issues is on DCUM.
Another PK parent here. She didn't go to an older grade but will be assigned to special ed students -- not sure if that is better or worse. But anyhow, the great thing about it was how the new admin dealt with it. The new principal really listened and found a solution, very quickly. I hope other parents will contact her if they are worried about their own kid's aide.
