NP here, and not a parent at the school, but what makes you think it's the principal? It's an anonymous board; there is no way to know. Why is it "clearly" her if the poster uses that language?

I like and support the principal and just voiced my support on the other thread. I don't have any sense that she would stoop to posting in defense of herself on this board. Her personality is strong and she is confident. And unlike her predecessor, has a valid argument for the decisions she makes. Spoiled, indignant and entitled probably isn't that far from the truth. And here's hoping the inner circle of influence that seems to have existed before at Lafayette is imploding.

While I would certainly encourage anyone who witnesses physical abuse to report it, most people are not mandated reporters. Teachers, doctors, social workers, and maybe some other professionals are mandated reporters and are legally required to report it. Everyone else is not.

If you witness corporal punishment, you are legally required to report it to Child Protective Service at 202-671-SAFE. You should not expect another adult to do that for you. The agency will do all of the investigation, and your report remains anonymous.

This is such good news! For those of us who tried in the past and were met with ambivalence and disregard this is very promising. Many of us who went through PreK couldn't do anything except accept the situation or pull our kids out. Lafayette is a great school but has a lot of dirty laundry that some don't want aired publicly. Regardless, it sounds like the new principal is addressing some of these long term issues. Hopefully the tide will change and those of us who were frustrated, disappointed and perplexed won't feel like the only place to bring up these issues is on DCUM.


Another PK parent here. She didn't go to an older grade but will be assigned to special ed students -- not sure if that is better or worse. But anyhow, the great thing about it was how the new admin dealt with it. The new principal really listened and found a solution, very quickly. I hope other parents will contact her if they are worried about their own kid's aide.


Yikes! Your idea of something being handled well by the new admin is scary. I can assure you that special ed parents are dealing with enough and now they get stuck with the crappy aide? Let me guess, you don't have a SN kid.
