Although my son got in some of the BEST charter schools some people could only dream of. I feel I chose the one best DCPS school that is EXCELLENT for me and my DS which is JO Wilson. I love the TOTM curriculum and his small class atmosphere and so far he has learned alot and his school year is not over yet!

Mann-best principal in all of DCPS, 2 teachers per classroom, sub 300 students, a brand new renovation and amazing teachers and community!

Are they teachers or aides?

They are Instructional Assistants, not co-teachers. Bret is moving to this model of instruction next year.

Don't all dcps have sides though?

Pre-K and K typically have one teacher and one aide in every class, then one aid per grade after that if the budget allows, plus student teachers intern in many classrooms with the main teacher usually for one semester per intern. My kids have had the additional student teachers almost every year.

The Mann PTA underwrites the cost of instructional aides by asking for a $1500 contribution for each student. Aides after K in non-Title I schools is the exception, not the rule. It is also a function of class size.

No, aides after prek 4 is the exception. Dcps budgeting only allows aids for 3 and 4 year olds. If a principal has aides in K, s/he is moving money around to do it.

Wow, i guess Mann does literally buy more teachers.

Hyde parent here. I'd gladly pay 1500 for an aide in my child's classroom.

All the title 1 schools I looked at have aides in K.

Is this a joke? The teachers & staff can't stand her. You got no idea what's going down.

Please stop this. There's a woman behind this statement - trying to do her best. Don't do this on an anonymous board, she's already been raked over the coals here.

No she hasn't. Nothing's been said about her here.
