Sorry to hear it may not be resolved, but sounds like it still happens far away from school and is not on the radar of most students and families.

This part doesn't surprise me actually. The local listserv has become super passive recently. No discussions of the food store that was promised in the senior living complex but seems to be quietly forgotten, or of the local coffee place closure. The listserv is not the same lol.

Weird also that so many people with kids at the school report the opposite.

When my kid attended Wilson, this forum was full of people posting full on fictional accounts of events that they made up and claimed happened at the school — including made up locations that don’t actually exist at the school.

I’m really skeptical about everything I see on this forum.

MacArthur parent- from what we’ve seen, most of the sports are JV now. They were 250 kids last year and have 580 enrolled now so I think they are focused on trying to get the kids settled academically first. Also, my kid said the kids seem relatively chill.

They had the Back to School Night this week. It was well organized. You received your child’s schedule and then visited their classes for 10 minute teacher presentations. Then there was 10 minutes to ask teacher’s questions. They staggered the visit sessions so 9th grade parents arrived at 6 pm and 10th/11th from 7-8pm. As a family that is new to DCPS, it was helpful to learn about the deadlines for mid-term assignments and how Canvas works.

If I were the athletic director, I’d have all JV teams since the kids are all underclassmen.

The primary goal of MaArthur was not to offload JR. That was really secondary. The primary goal was to have another school WOTP for OOB kids can have access and feed to (siblings). So no need to do anything to attract majority IB parents. IB families will be forced to go there soon enough.

They didn't select a location. Bowser did a favor for her developer/GDS friends, and then had a building to come up with a purpose for.

The building is more accessible for OOB than IB. For real. That does align with DCPS goals.

I'd put it all a little differently: MacArthur exists to provide more seats, IB or OOB, so the OOB students at JR don't get pushed out.

OOB students are JR are coming from the feeder elementary and then middle schools. They will never get pushed out. Registrars enroll anyone from a feeder school.

Don’t spoil the conspiracy theorists’ fun. Their main joy in life seems to be posting uninformed speculation about the motives of people they’ve never met. They aren’t interested in boring old real world facts.

But there are plenty of IB students that don’t go to JR from feeders, like my kids and a bunch of their friends.

What does that have to do with OOB kids at JR? Those kids are coming from feeder patterns. They won’t be pushed out unless the feeder elementary schools stop accepting them. And that’s not going to happen.
