My kid is applying this year. Will have a 4.0 UW if they recalculate as this forum suggests (his grades are all A-, A and A+). 1560 SAT although it seems like they don't care much about SATs? DH is a non-active alum. Not sure that matters either.
He really prefers Ross but got scared off by the low odds.

Instead of relying on anecdotal evidence, Michigan itself tells you that many, many, many more get in with SATs below 1350. Some 25% of all students have below a 1350. Only 52% of enrolled freshmen even submitted SAT scores.

I guess you can trust random strangers on the internet, or the university itself...

My kid got in last year UMich LSA OOS. I’m an alum but that doesn’t help with admissions any more. Kid was 4.4 national merit commended. EC weak but did participate. Did not get into CS but doing STEM anyhow. He is there now and doing well!

It’s definitely a school where kid needs to navigate bureaucracy and work with his peers to overcome housing, research, and class registration challenges.

Plus, the fact that 25% of those who did and were admitted scored below 1350, being a low scorer is fine.

Talk about cherry picking stats to suit your agenda. You picked the one school at Michigan where talent is as important as a high GPA. The vast majority of applicants to any school would never make it into The School of Music, Theater, and Dance.


The % OOS is also wildly biased compared to overall undergrad.

When you have so many test optional students plus a low 25%, OP don't worry about your child's teat scores. Michigan doean't look for high stats.

Yes - stats are much higher for OOS. Had 2 DCs get into Michigan Engineering (CS)
One attending. Legacy parent and grandparents.

DC1: class of 2022. 4.0 UW, 4.6W, lots of APs. SAT 1540. ECs were ok. Very good recommendations.

DC2: class of 2024. 4.3W, unsure unweighted. SAT 1590. Lots of APs. ECs ok, strong athlete. Probably good recommendations but not as strong as DC1.

Michigan is a solid state school. They are looking for talented, motivated kids with different interests to put together a well-rounded class. You're DC has a great shot. Only way to find out is for them to apply. Good luck!

That's what you want. The 25th percentile is 1350 and 75th is 1530
