Omg! I would throw that broccoli out in my yard, in the very back, behind the tree line and try to forget it ever happened.

Yeah I absolutely would not eat this brocolli, this is not normal

This is not normal, even for organic. It means the crop had an infestation that wasn't handled. There is no way to get rid of them. There are hundreds of of bugs within the florets, soaking might knick off a few, but go ahead and dig round and you will see clumps of them all over inside the heads.

Throw it out. I will only buy organic broccoli that isn't pre-wrapped so that I am able to carefully inspect it in the store.

I would ask for a refund. It's very easy to get a refund when you get Whole Foods deliveries via Amazon.

Fish has tons of parasites. This is why USDA requires it to be frozen. Also “fresh” fish has been sitting around in the best scenario for a week or more.

Which is fine when we don't know it. It's the knowing that makes it awful.

I'm the PP of the wormy salmon incident. Here's my old thread about it, if you want to gross yourself out:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/478096.page

Now I always buy fish that's been frozen on board the ship. That way any worms are dead and probably invisible, and it's fine. The problem with my fresh, never-frozen salmon was that the worms were wriggling in our plates and could potentially have caused disease. Turns out we were all fine, but still.

Whole Foods was wonderful, as always, and reimbursed me without question.

This is Op. yeah, I typically just do a quick rinse or two under running water with broccoli... I saw a post recently online that broccoli actually is prone to lots and lots of tiny bugs (aphids). So tonight I looked closely, washed in a big bowl and examined the water. So gross. Lots of dead bugs floating in the water and lots of bugs sitting in the bottom of the bowl. So I washed again. Still bugs coming out. Washed again. More bugs. I washed so many times and in batches and. Then examined the florets and there are still bugs.

This is most horrifying thread I’ve read on DCUM. I am a big veggie eater and have never had this. Now I’m worried I just haven’t been looking close enough. Ughhhh...vomit.

The fish worm thing is common. This is why I pretty much stick to frozen at this point (that, and I’m cheap).

It really sounds like excessive broccoli bugs, though. I can’t imagine.

can someone go into detail or link to previous discussions about this fish/worm thing, I am terrified.

Also uneasy about your broccoli situation, OP.

Yes you need to be careful when you eat sushi. A common issue. Look up.

I learned from DCUM that salmon often has worms under the skin.
