A red card results in the player sitting out in this tournament. Maybe they did not have subs?

That's a lot to deal with at 9 or 10 years old.

Definitely understand the need to protect kids. Some refs are more permissive than others and I suspect their first game was probably reffed the same way. But on the game this morning, I am pretty sure a red card at this age simply means the player leaves the match. I don’t think they make U10s play a kid down. But if others know differently please pipe up. Perhaps different rules in tournaments.

Thanks for the report. That's interesting. I can easily believe the reffing was bad, but I'm surprised there were injuries. What calls/missed calls were calling them? Were the Achilles parents and kids all ok with the decision given that Achilles almost certainly would have made the semi-final but for the forfeit?

I saw them in a different tourney. They were very strong and there were no DCU U12s playing. Perhaps guest players from other strong U10 teams. But the kids clearly knew each other well and played well together. They were a little edgy and testy but that is par for the course for those kinds of teams at that age.

Bethesda Tournament...they won a pretty strong second bracket very easily.
They has two or three really strong players...looking back now, it wouldn't surprise me if they were guests.

Looks like they're in the top bracket of the Potomac Tournament this weekend...we'll see how they do there.

Several DC United DA players have guested for some of the teams so there’s that

In the fall Achilles had a large group of brand new mostly 2010s and some 2009s that played together in SAM Select as 2009 teams. The teams didn't get great results and I think the kids got frustrated because they were just learning to play "Achilles-style" and didn't yet have the skills to do it well. So the coach moved them to play "in-house" games this spring to develop their skills in a more constructive environment. Some of those kids have real potential but they looked like a mess on the field then.

There is a more established Achilles 09 team that is quite good. It has a few really talented 2010s and the rest 2009. I see these kids at practice every week so I don't know where the idea comes from that they are importing players. I do know that Achilles lets players play elsewhere too (some of the young ones still do rec league, others play for their middle school, etc) But the established 2009 team is made up of skilled kids who started training with the club in first or second grade, so are now blossoming.
