What would you think if...

Wise soccer community...what would you think and do if your child’s B team had a semifinal match and none of the coaches showed up because they were coaching other games (it’s academy style club so any one of them coaches any given match) AND the team was under-rostered because a few of the players had to leave for another match halfway through (different age group playing up)? My own son is crushed. Thoughts?

I would demand money back and post this situation on social media. You won’t get any money back but maybe you can hurt their recruiting and retention. You paid for a service and they failed to deliver it. It’s amazing with all the options around here how much parents put up with unprofessional behavior.

Tryouts are ongoing for other clubs. Strongly consider checking them out. Good coaching is about more than just skill development. The psychology is equally important - setting kids up for a demoralizing situation like that is inexcusable. Club is clearly sending the kids that it values other teams more. If that’s the case, there’s definitely a better place for your kid and teammates elsewhere.

I admit I just saw this on recent topics and am not a soccer mom. However I am a mother, and I would be furious! Why don’t the coaches just all get together and send every member of the B team a note that says “ hey BTW we really don’t give a crap about your team good luck in the game!”

OP - has this kind of thing been going on all season? I agree with PPs, but it’s even more egregious if it’s not the first time it has happened.

OP here- as far as I remember it hasn’t happened other times this spring but there have been other matches in the fall and in prior years where the team manager had to step in and coach. B team also only gets 2 practices per week (vs A team 3) despite the fact that most kids on the team are committed players.

OP here - yes that sums up how I feel too, just not quite sure what to do about it! Already let my son know how proud I am that he played hard until the end, kept his chin up etc., all of that resiliency stuff. But how to handle dealing with the club itself?

Used to happen all the time at BRYC.
I know of couple instances when it was two BRYC teams in the final, the same coach coached both teams.

Probably. Not OP but this is too common an occurrence there.
